The Interconnection Between Humans & Our Ocean Planet

@stephintotheocean

Stephanie is a marine scientist, scientific communicator and underwater explorer based in England and Canada. She specialises in marine conservation, with a particular interest in environmental equity and connecting science to policy. Stephanie is currently looking for opportunities in strategic communications with a positive environmental impact. She is skilled in communication, digital media relations, leadership, time management, and networking.

Stephanie has been passionate about the natural environment, its protection, and the creatures that inhabit it ever since she can remember. She went to university to better understand the natural world as a whole. Her BSc dissertation researching coral reefs in Utila, Honduras, provided her with an in-depth knowledge of the complex ecological processes in marine and coastal environments.

As a former editor for Women in Ocean Science, Stephanie is undertaking an MSc in Biodiversity, Wildlife and Ecosystem Health at The University of Edinburgh. Her interests include diversifying conservation, improving scientific communication and decolonising educational outreach primarily through social media and visual educational content. Stephanie is dedicated to environmental equity to ensure diverse knowledge systems and cultural values groups are reflected in environmental stewardship.

Having worked as a marine biologist in Utila, Cuba, Belize and the Cayman Islands, Stephanie has lived in climate change and ecosystem degradation hotspots. While working as a scuba diving instructor, Stephanie has also introduced thousands of people to the marine realm's awe and wonder, hoping to inspire them to protect our precious oceanic ecosystems.
